Neglect of water diplomacy in the region and Turkey’s opportunism
The lack of pious and guaranteed law about the international waters has led various countries, including Turkey, with water hostage-taking manner about common rivers upstream (their source) build large dams and reduce other neighbors access to resources that they need so they can take advantage of political pressure align with their foreign policies. This issue has already affected Iraq and Syria with Turkish dam construction measures and now Iran, Azerbaijan and Armenia are targeted. Neglecting about this will cause the countries using the Aras River water, to face economic, environmental and security problems in the future, and as a result, they will bear a heavy price in the regional economy and the acceptance of their sovereignty among the citizens.
